What are the consequences of UrbEx becoming too popular?
Friday, 23 April 2010 10:34

Recently, urban exploration got a tremendous rise in popularity that can be attributed to its increased media attention. A lot of hobby adventurers launch into Urbex without any knowledge of the locations they visit, without any photographic skills and broadcast the addresses of abandoned locations over the Internet. Recently there has been increasing discussion on whether the extra attention has been beneficial to urban exploration as a whole. The unspoken rule of urban exploring is "take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints", but because of the rising popularity, many individuals who may have other intentions are creating a concern among many property owners. This causes an exponential degradation of the image of real artists in photography. This new Urbex-Trend launched by people who have no affinity with this particular concept of photography is destroying the initial concept and philosophy of urban exploration, consisting of artistic quality pictures of decay. Real urban exploration combines photographic quality and respect of the places visited.
