ARBED Belval

In spring 1909 the "Rhein-Elbe-Gelsenkirchener Bergwerksgesellschaft" has started the construction of the furnaces of Esch/Belval. The first two furnaces were heated the first time in the year 1911. The whole infrastructure was taken over by ARBED on 23.04.1937 an renamed "Division de Belval de l'ARBED". The fournace C (the third and latest) has been heatet the first time at 8h25 in the morning of the 10th september 1979 and shut down in the night from 20 to 21 january 1995 due to a hole in both, the carbon an the shield. This furnace has been exported to China during August and September 1996. The last furnace (B) has been shut down at 18:30 o'clock on thursday, August 28 in 1997.

The second furnace (B) is being destroyed at this time and the site of Belval is being reconverted to an industral museum.
