Hasard-Cheratte
The coal mine of Hasard-Cheratte is located in a small village on the border to the Netherlands in Belgium. The mine has been opened in the 1860's and has occupied up to 1500 miners. The mine has three shafts with depths of 170 m (nr. 1), 313 m (nr. 2) and 480 m (nr. 3). A supplementary shaft can be found on the hill just behind the Malakow tower over shaft nr. 1. This shaft was used to lift waste material and was called "Puits Hognée". Hasard-Cheratte has been abandoned in 1977.
