Terre Rouge and Usine BrasseurThe "Terre Rouge" was a big entity of the iron ore industry in Luxembourg formerly called ARBED, and now part of the ARCELOR/Mittal Group. The history of the site began in the year 1870 when the authorization was given to start the construction of the "Brasseur" factory. In 1872 the first iron ore furnace was heated. In 1937 ARBED has taken over the factory and the furnaces have been closed in the year 1977. Since the shutdown of the last furnaces in 1997, the last buildings still in use have been left abandoned.

... Hi, The pictures you posted this comment are not from Differdange, but the Central in Differdange is on a site that is still in production. So you can consider it as an infiltration if you go there and they will surely call the police if they catch you. All other places are abandonned... Greetings, Shantideva |

Question: Terra Rouge Foundry Hi, Shantideva, love your site. Great stuff. Regarding picture #14 of the foundry (the one overlooking what seems to be a canal of some sort), can you tell me more about this? -- What are the structures hanging from the ceiling? -- Is the lowermost floor of the structure? -- Approximately how big is this space? -- What was this space used for? -- How deep is the water and does the "canal" straight or does it have any offshoots, inlets, etc.? Thanks in advance, and apologies for all the questions. GB |

... Hi, The foundry has been destroyed a long time ago. This building that still remains is a silo building. They stored the iron ore in big silos. On picture 14 you see the lower part of the funnel at the bottom of the silos. Here, lorries were filled with iron ore. The water is approximatively 1,5 meters deep. It is not a canal. The rails are still visible on the floor unter the water. It is a quai filled with rain water. You can imagine the size of the place if you know the size of a train lorry (or container). This fitts exactly under the silos and between the walls. You're welcome! |
