| Written by Shantideva | | Friday, 10 December 2010 22:18 | | Finally I have finished processing the last pictures from an abandoned farming house. I had a lot of studio shots to process the last weeks so I did not find the time to process those pictures. They can be found in the member area by following this link. I hope you enjoy the latest additions. | |

I have uploaded some pictures from the ARCELORMITTAL production site of Belval, formerly called ARBED Belval. The pictures can be found on the same page where I have put the pictures of the old part of the site that is still in reconversion. Here is the direct Link to the pictures. I hope you enjoy the contrast between the active and the abandoned parts of the site. | | Maison Heinen Exploration |

This week-end (Saturday and Sunday) I went together with some fellow explorers in the northern part of Luxembourg to explore a large abandoned farming house. Abandoned houses are very rare but this gem is of a exceptional beauty. We (Gennaro, Andy and Simone) were very lucky to explore it now because it is told that the house will be destroyed very soon. It took us two days to explore it and I already uploaded one picture in the newly created "Maison Heinen" gallery under Residential Art. I have created a new gallery for this location because I'll upload at least 5 more pictures in the next few days. So don't forget to come back to have a look at the latest pictures of this amazing house. | | Written by Shantideva | | Saturday, 31 July 2010 17:44 |
Last Week-End I had the pleasure to get the keys to a house that has just been sold and the owners found it in a really dilapidated state. After seen of my pictures they found that the place could be an interesting place for me to take some shots. Unfortunately I went too late and most of the furniture was already removed. I have still managed to get a couple of shots. These shots can be found in the residential Gallery. | | Written by Shantideva | | Monday, 26 July 2010 10:04 |
I had a quite adventurous exploration week-end. We left Luxembourg together with Andy and Simone on Sunday at 4 o'clock in the morning to be as early as possible on a very beautiful location. On location I realized that I left my tripod plate attached to the 70-200 lens. I do not use that lens for architecture, so I left it at home. I was lucky that a lot of people use Manfrotto Tripods and so Andy gave me his plate when he had finished taking his pictures. But I could make some nice pictures and it was a great journey that gave us the opportunity to meet some fellow explorers (Staticpulse and Urbex_Bassie). After our trip to the theatre we went to a mansion in Luxembourg. I have got the keys for this location by the owner, but unfortunately most of the furniture has been removed and I could take only a couple of pictures. By mischance, the owner of the mansion got aware too late about my photography and the house was cleaned a couple of weeks before in order to be renovated and transformed. Up to now I have uploaded only one picture of the theatre in the Public Infrastructure Gallery. More pictures of this place and the mansion will follow as soon as I have processed them. So, don't forget to get back regularly for updates. (...and... please don't ask me for location details... ) | | Da Vinci Shooting with Photogen Members |
| Written by Shantideva | | Thursday, 10 June 2010 12:32 | Last week-end a very funny photo shooting has been organized by 18 members of the photo community Photogen. Our aim was to create two variations of the well known image from Leonardo da Vinci called "The last supper". One variation was the surgery version and the second was a business version. Here is one of the pictures I have taken that day.
Please click on image for a larger preview. Unfortunately, having participated as a model to the business version, I did not take pictures from that variation. You may find the pictures in the model gallery. Thanks a lot to the whole crew for this wonderful shooting! | | Written by Shantideva | | Sunday, 23 May 2010 18:14 | There have not been new explorations since this week-end because I was sick over the last few weeks. Fortunately I am back for good and ready for new explorations. That's what I did already twice this week-end to a closed, but not abandoned, hospital in Germany. I first went there with Michael and his girlfriend together with Carina and Gennaro. Today I returned back together with some very nice guys from Philadelphia (USA), Matt, Kevin and Mark together with two friends from the Netherlands, Martino and Bart, and Gennaro. Both explorations were very short although the place is really huge, but there are not so many things to see there. You may have a look at the first pictures in the Krankenhaus gallery under Public Infrastructure.... As always... stay tuned... more pictures will follow shortly. And may be you should also have a look in the Centrale U Gallery. I have added some pictures and I am still processing some others. But due to my sickness I was not really motivated to work a lot on post-processing. | | Written by Shantideva | | Sunday, 04 April 2010 21:17 | | Today I had the pleasure to do a little exploration with Edy and Max. My son Ken has joined us for the adventure. I was happy to meet Max because we haven't explored together for several month. It was a great afternoon and we visited a electrical power central belonging to one of the numerous abandoned blast furnaces in the region around Luxembourg. You may find the pictures of that central under Centrale U in the Industrial Gallery. | | Visit of Zeche Tausend Feuer |
| Written by Shantideva | | Monday, 29 March 2010 11:09 | This week-end the daylight saving time has been changed and I had arranged with Andy, Simone, Edy and Gennaro to visit a recently abandoned coal mine in Germany. We went up very early and met at 7 o'clock in the morning to start our trip. Due to the time change I went to bed earlier to be fit for that long trip and photo session the following day. We have planned our route well and also analysed the best way to get on the territory of the colliery. So, we arrived before 11 o'clock at the colliery and we have stayed for about 6 hours in the buildings taking some very nice pictures. Unfortunately we did not find the locker-room and the room where the miners lamps have been charged but I think these buildings were in use that day. The lamps were on in some of the smaller buildings and as we approached them we were seen by security guards. After a small chase and race we could escape them and leave the territory without being caught. That's the first time we decided to run instead of trying to negotiate with the guards and I think it was a good idea because it was late and we had still a long trip back to Luxembourg. Waiting for the police and get arrested on a Sunday after-noon is probably the worst thing that could have happened to us at this time because we were really tired and glad to drink a beer together and leave early to be at home at about 10 o'clock PM. The pictures can be found under Zeche Tausend Feuer in the Industrial Gallery. The name is fake in order to protect the place. | | The Urbexripper and the Cucaracha |
| Written by Shantideva | | Monday, 15 March 2010 11:13 | | Without precise destination Gennaro, Ben, Andy, Simone and I went together in the region of Charleroi to visit some points of interest of my Google-Earth Urbex Database. These were an abandoned coal mine and an abandoned train repair shop. During our whole stay in the train repair shop we heard the melody of "La Cucaracha" in a penetrating digital sound, as if somebody was playing a midi file uninterruptedly. But the music was moving and we heard it always from another corner but it seemed to be very close or getting always closer. This must have been the urbex ripper chasing us because we had a small stop at an abandoned brewery, and even there we heard this melody again. This was very funny but eerie. The pictures can be found in the industrial category under Others. | | ECVB and Industrial Speleology |
| Written by Shantideva | | Monday, 01 March 2010 13:49 | Finally the winter said goodbye and the new exploration season has already started in a very eventful way. After the latest visits of Chambre du Commerce and Chateau du Loup I went together with my fellow urbex companions Andy, Simone and Ben to a electrical power station known by the pseudonym ECVB. This building complex is large enough to stay there the whole day. Unfortunately the weather was really awful yesterday, so I could not take advantage of the amazing outside views I had from the upper floors and the roof of the building. But it is probably not the last time I visited this place because we had not enough time to visit everything. Up to now I have only processed the first picture I have uploaded in the gallery ECVB Power Station in the Industrial Gallery. I have still to process a lot of pictures from this location and also from the locations I visited the last week. So, as always, don't forget to get back recently to see the latest additions for ECVB. And finally, I did some industrial speleology this Saturday. Unfortunately the mine I intended to visit in Moulaine has been closed very well and I could not take new shots of some pictures that failed the last time I was there. But I was not very sad to see this mine closed because it is one of the most beautiful mines to visit in the whole region and the fact that it has been closed is a way to protect it from thieves too. So we decided to visit another mine. But I will not disclose the name of the mine we have visited and pictures are only accessible to registered/trusted spelunkers. But I have made the pictures of Moulaine publicly available because the mine is not accessible anymore. | |
